The nature of publishing is changing, as are the outlets for selling books.
With so many indie bookshops closing, authors are trying a variety of approaches to reach new audiences. Diana Jackson has been fortunate over the years that she has been writing, to have book signing events on the island of Alderney, in Southampton, St Neots, Ampthill, Hitchin and Luton and she had a couple of Waterstones managers already showing an interest in her coming to them for an event for her Bedfordshire murder mystery ‘Murder, Now and Then.’
Why do authors enjoy book signing events?
They reach a new audience. They enjoy face to face conversations with their readers.
It raises their profile in a particular town.
In the case of ‘indie’ books it is one step closer to the bookshops selling their books. This worked especially well in ‘indie’ bookshops, but sad to say many of these have closed down now.
Unfortunately Waterstones, which is one of the few successful chains of bookshops with outlets throughout the UK, changed its rules, which is their prerogative of course.
Buoyed by two successful and enjoyable book signings at Christmas Fairs in Stotfold and Clophill, Diana was encouraged by such a warm response and not only that was pleased that she was also supporting local charities and groups too, and so it was a win … win situation.
“Since Waterstones have changed their rules about book-signings I’ve been looking for other venues to meet new readers and have certainly been cheered by the last two Saturdays at the Stotfold and Clophill Christmas Fairs. I have already been invited to attend one next May. One door closes … and another … now, if Waterstones change their mind they still know where to find me. Sad because I enjoyed my days in Southampton, St Neots and Luton Waterstones”
If you’d like Diana to do a book-signing in your store or at your fair then you are welcome to get in touch with us:
